PhD, LPC, LCSW, MD:
What does all this mean?

A licensed psychologist has received a doctoral degree from a graduate program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.  This involves about twice as much time in school, if not more so, than a Master's degree in counseling, social work, or similar fields.  This additional time is spent gaining over 4,000 hours of hands on, supervised training covering all aspects of diagnosis, treatment, and effective techniques for helping clients; training that is virtually unparalleled in any other profession today.

A psychologist is not a medical doctor, and cannot prescribe medication.  Most psychologists, myself included, often partner with family doctors, general physicians and psychiatrists in order to meet your individual treatment needs.

My approach

My philosophy of counseling involves focusing not only on the current problem, but on individual strengths and building upon these strengths in order to help clients overcome their struggles. The keystone of an arch is often the final architectural piece put in place, locking all the surrounding stones into position, and allowing the arch to bear weight. Similarly, my goal is to work with you to become an integrated individual, so that you can gain the strength needed to cope with life's daily hassles, as well as life's major stressors.
